Specialty Training
Employment for your dog.

All clients are required to pick a dog job prior to the Off Leash Training, this is because we will cover all the basics and essentials of your chosen dog job during the off leash training. Further specialty training is $50 an hour, and is intended to be spent on setting goals, helping with obstacles encountered while training, coaching and evaluating progress, not covering the basics.
Service Dog Training
Are you looking for a service dog? Here are some things you need to know.

ADA
In order to have a service dog you MUST have a disability as classified by The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. In order to train with WTDT, you must disclose your disability so that we can train tasks to aid you, and to bring your dog into compliance with ADA guidelines. All disclosed medical information will remain strictly confidential unless provided written and notarized permission from the client or a court order signed by a judge.

BYOD
Do you already have a dog and want to see if they can be a service dog? No worries, ALL service dog evaluations are provided free of charge.

In order for your dog to qualify, they must have gone through the In Home and On Leash training.

They must be physically capable of performing tasks that can aid you with your disability.

They must have a temperament conducive to public interactions.

Choosing a breed
If you don't have a dog yet or are wondering what breed may be best for your disability, feel free to fill out the contact form with what tasks you would like your dog to perform to aid you.

For example, if you would like a dog to aid you in mobility, whether you are elderly or in need of mobility assistance devices, I would recommend a Great Dane.
Psychiatric Therapy Dog
Psychiatric Therapy dogs are NOT service dogs, but they are working dogs trained to provide comfort and support to a wide variety of people.

PTDs require a very stringent evaluation process that is actually much more strict than service dogs.

PTDs work in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, hospice centers, libraries and disaster zones. They provide much needed, desired and appreciated support for people dealing with anxiety, trauma, or special needs.

Being a PTD handler is often an extremely rewarding experience, and almost exclusively a volunteer service.

Evaluations for PTDs are free.

Dryland/Urban Mushing
Dryland/Urban Mushing is for the dogs that LOVE to pull and run. It requires a high drive, lots of energy, and often the ability to work with other dogs. As with standard mushing, Huskies dominate this sport/job, but in the same way that Agility is not just for Border Collies, mushing can be done with many many dog breeds. So if you don't have huskies, don't worry!

Mushing is generally discouraged with a single dog, however Canicross and Bike/Scooter Joring are great alternatives.

Carts come in many shapes, sizes and varieties, some may be more expensive than others, but I generally recommend ones with more than two wheels, or if they have only two, that the wheels are laterally aligned instead of inline like bikes.

Your dogs will not just be trained to mush, but also to stay in locations for extended periods of times allowing for mushing to not just be an activity, but also a mode of transportation! Want to go grocery shopping or get take out? Don't waste money on gas, take your dogs!
Nosework
Nosework covers many, many different dog jobs and training can vary depending on the desired outcome, if nosework appeals to you, be sure to ask yourself the following.

What do I want my dog to look for?
Whether it is foraging, Barn hunt, Pest Detection, Search and Rescue, or Environmental Protection, knowing what you want your dog to look for is the first step to training your dog for an Olfactory Occupation.

Can my Canine Career make human money?
It sounds like a silly question, but believe it or not their are tons of ways to actually make money with a scent dog!

From Pest Detection, to Environmental Protection/Wildlife Conservation, to Foraging, there are many ways to turn your dog job, into a real job.

Search and Rescue
SAR is something I always bring up to all clients wanting to do nose work, because SAR dogs are always in shortage.

While it is not for the faint of heart, if you have the temerity for it, I highly encourage working towards this goal. Know that SAR teams are most in demand around the holidays and alongside disaster relief efforts.

To all the SAR teams out there, thank you for your service and your sacrifice!
Hunting/Field
Hunting/Field jobs are the popular picks for all you retriever and waterdog owners out there.

Don't have a traditional hunting dog, but your dog loves to retrieve things? This may be the dog job for you!

Not a hunter? Against the very Idea? No wories, Field is there for you, its a sport, like agility, or dock diving, so no hunting required.

Have an Idea not here?
Fill out the contact form and tell me all about it, if it isn't something I do, or I know someone who does it better, (Agility, Disc Dog as some examples) I'll point you in the right direction so you get the best results for your money.
